When Colin Batch joined Dragons half way the 2008-2009 season, our Heren 1 were not at their best, a team with potential but not fully living up to the expectations. For an Australian and hockey expert (two complementary qualities) like Colin, coaching this team presented both a challenge and an opportunity.
Faced with a literally frozen hockey pitch when he arrived at Brasschaat, he realised he had quite a job in front of him. But he must also have realised that, stemming from a true hockey family, his vast experience as an international top player with 175 caps for Australia, his excellent track record as a coach with a gold Olympic medal among all the other precious metal, were valuable assets matching Dragons' ambitions to perform at the highest level both national as well as international. Now, barely two and a half years later, he leaves Dragons, but he leaves the Club at a height with two successive national titles and a brilliant European Hockey League campaign. He leaves a club in the save hands of his successor Eric Verboom, with continuous support from the Board, the Cel Tophockey and the most mysterious force in Belgian hockey: the marvellous D-side. And yes, he may leave Dragons but we are confident that in his mind he will always remain a Dragon! Thank you Colin, you are the Best. |
