Het gaat goed met onze jongens in Singapore. Het Belgische team heeft op de Youth Olympics eerst Chili verslagen met 9-0, en zojuist gastland Singapore met 7-1. Vrijdag wacht hen waarschijnlijk een moeilijkere match tegen Australië.

Mathew Cobbaert gaf ook een interview over zijn trotse Belgische nationaliteit en sponsor Inbev.

Although host country Singapore played, the majority of the spectators came from Belgium. Pushed forward by their cheering crowd Belgium attacked strongly.

Singapore’s goalkeeper Samudra Pang Chian ONG had to show some phenomenal saves to keep the score tied. However he was defeated by Arno DEVREKER's shot in the 7th minute. After the European under 18 Champions left several opportunities unused they extended their lead to 3-0 within three minutes.

Singapore became stronger in the second half. Team-captain Nur Ashriq Ferdaus ZULKEPLI had a strong run towards goal and Alexander HENDRICKX could only stop his drive through a hard tackle. Umpire Aziz ADIMAH awarded a penalty corner to Singapore: The first shot was saved by the Belgium goalkeeper Arnaud FLAMAND who did not kick it out of danger. The rebound landed in front of Rahmat ABDUL JALIL who did not hesitate and smashed the ball into the goal.

Now the supporters of Singapore woke up and cheered loudly. Belgium faught back soon after: The ball came across the circle where Arno DEVREKER picked it up and tipped it in. Belgium finished off with three more goals in the last six minutes. DEVREKER is new leader of the top scorer list having scored seven goals in total.

We wensen Louis, Arthur en Mathew en de rest van het Belgische team veel succes. Ook Prins Filip kwam een kijkje nemen naar het goed presterend Belgisch hockey team.
